Summer Fun in Bee Cave and Hill Country
Fun Family Activities in Lakeway and Bee Cave, Texas
Yes, it’s summer folks. Time to burst out your family fun activity lists and get ready for a staycation or a family road trip. And if Bee Cave or the Hill Country are your destinations, we’ve got you covered. Tomasik Family Dental has put together some great activities to inspire your stay-at-home days and spice up your family outings. Let’s go!
1. Stay In
Make painted rock art, create a backyard water garden, or upcycle a container into an interactive toy. There are tons of activities you can do as a family all while staying in. What’s more? You’ll skip the hassle of driving, buying tickets, getting road trip snacks, and all the little expenses of getting the whole family from point A to point B.
2. Urban Air Adventure Park in Bee Cave
With new adventures around every corner, Urban Air Adventure Park is the ultimate indoor playground for the whole family. Strap on a headset and try out their virtual reality snowball fights. Upgrade from the playground monkey bars with the Urban Air rope course and clock in some hang time. Or sign up for the Parent Night Out events and let your kids enjoy the numerous available activities as you and your partner get some much-needed time alone. You can always find out what’s happening at the park through their online calendar event schedule.
3. Eat Outdoors
You’re probably thinking: “With this heat, you must be kidding me!” But eating outdoors isn’t just more fun, it also means less cleanup for the grown-ups. Plus, you can always find a cool spot in Bee Cave sheltered from the scorching Texas sun. Go on a picnic near the Hill Country Galleria splash pad or choose a bench in one of the shaded seating areas at Bee Cave Central Park and cool off while you eat.
4. Backyard movie night
Sure, Cinemark Hill Country Galleria has some great movie options but can it compete with the extra buttery homemade popcorn and, ahem, extra commentary of family movie night? Why not hang up a sheet in your backyard, rent a projector that connects to your iPad or Mac, and voilà, you have your own mini-theater. Add a couple of lawn blankets to make a cozy surface, a few chair options for back support, some theater-style popcorn, or colorful ceramic bowls full of nachos and dip, and you’re all set for a memorable backyard movie night.
5. Lake Travis
Is there a better place to be during the summertime than the Lake Travis area? We don’t think so. The 65-mile-long reservoir simply bursts with fun activities suitable for the whole family at every corner. You can take a boat and explore the lake. Go on the fastest, longest zip line in Texas at the Lake Travis Zipline Adventures and get a bird's-eye view of the lake as well as the surrounding canyons. Or take a guided tour through the nearby sheltered limestone crevice, walk the tree-ringed grotto trail, and explore the caves and canyonlands. It’s also the perfect place to see the beautiful Texas wildflowers in full bloom. And for those times when the sun’s rays feel almost unbearable, try the indoor activities at the Almost Grown Play Cafe. It has an amazing interactive play space for young kids and a full calendar of activities guaranteed to capture your little one’s interests.Check out the official Lake Travis website for some great family-friendly activities happening throughout the year.
6. Hamilton Pool Preserve in Bee Cave
Now, for panoramic water views, Lake Travis is a great option for many, but for families with an adventurous spirit we recommend the Hamilton Pool Preserve. Its lush grotto and blue-green natural swimming hole is by far the most beautiful natural spot in the area… at least we think so. The quarter-of-a-mile-long hike from the parking area to the pool is also quite invigorating.Visitors need to make online reservations early to gain access to the pool.
7. Sculpture Park in Bee Cave
Explore artwork by Bee Cave artists at the 7-acre Sculpture Park. Your kids will no doubt love the rotating sculptures—especially the whimsical frog with wings. Walk the trails weaving through the park. Check out the numerous native plants. And, if you’re very lucky (and pay close attention), you may even come across a deer.
8. Watch the Stars
Stargazing with the kids is a fantastic summertime activity. It’s a great way to bond with your children and teach them a little about the wonders of the night sky. And there’s no better place to watch the stars than Bee Cave, Texas. You can find unobstructed views of the night sky almost anywhere in our town. The city of Bee Cave is even pursuing a Dark Sky Community designation with the International Dark-Sky Association. How cool is that? The next time you pass through the Hill Country, make a pitstop at Bee Cave for some wholesome family fun. Our team at Tomasik Family Dental may just be the hikers right in front of you at the Hamilton Pool Reserve or the zip liners at Lake Travis. Feel free to come on by and say hello.
